Je me sentais pas trop bien j’t’avoue. Elle m’a redit doucement ‘debiiite ore crediiite?’ J’ai dit ‘credit’. Pas convaincue. Mais ça a marché. Depuis, j’ai compris…On est habitués aux États Unis à devoir faire un choix entre deux options, souvent vitales : républicains ou démocrates, Fox News ou CNN, mayo ou ketchup, ongles limés ronds ou carrés. Bah en plus de tout ça, on doit aussi choisir entre ‘debit’ ou ‘credit’. Autrement dit: tu payes direct ou tu accumules les dettes comme un connard.
Plein d’étudiants Américains ont déjà depensé plus de 10 000 dollars via leurs cartes de crédit, et ils n’ont que 21 ans. (Et ils enquillent avec un prêt étudiant pour leurs années scolaires à 100 000 dollars/an). En gros imagine : Brian a payé ses coca, ses sandwichs et ses bières avec sa carte de crédit pendant des années et il a accumulé une dette ridicule en gérant son argent comme un pied. C’est un étudiant, il est jeune et excité à l’idée pour pouvoir acquérir des biens sans vraiment les payer. Ça se comprend ! Et faut dire que quand c’est la norme, comment savoir qu’on est dans le faux. Ou du moins ; comment penser qu’on fait des choix qui auront des conséquences désastreuses pour l’avenir…
Pour faire simple (mais c’est un peu compliqué, so…), quand tu vas à la banque pour ouvrir un compte aux États Unis, on te propose une carte de débit et une carte de crédit. La carte de débit, une Visa de base te permet de régler tes dépenses. L’argent sera immédiatement débité de ton compte. Mais pas comme avec notre CB, 2-3 jours plus tard. Non ! Immédiatement. Donc si tu n’as pas d’argent, tu ne peux pas l’utiliser. La carte de crédit par contre, te permet de dépenser de l’argent que tu n’as pas. En gros, tu négocies avec ton banquier quelle limite tu peux atteindre sur ta carte. Ça peut être n’importe quoi, 2 000 dollars, 10 000 dollars ou illimité (American Express baby). Puis à toi la société de consommation ! Enfin, à toi… C’est ce que tu crois. Au final, tu viens de te prendre la banane du siècle.
Tiens, un MacBook Pro. Oh, des bottes Ralph Lauren. Ah, le concert de Mary J. Blige. Eh, un week-end à Miami. Et j’en passe. Tu peux régler tes dépenses avec cette carte sans avoir à payer de suite. Et accroche-toi. A la fin du mois tu reçois un relevé avec le détail de tes dépenses. Imagine que le max de ton crédit est 10 000 dollars. En Novembre tu as dépensé 1 000 dollars. Bien sûr, ces $ 1 000 s’additionnent à tous les autres dollars dépensés et pas encore payés. Puis tu choisis combien tu veux rembourser ce mois-là. Disons que tu as accumulé 8 000 dollars depuis que tu as ta carte, tu peux choisir de rembourser que 500 dollars fin Novembre. Tu te fais un virement interne, un chèque, ce que tu veux pour mettre les sous à temps sur ton compte de crédit. Et tu accumules comme un pigeon une somme de ouf, couronnée d’intérêts énormes. (Capito ? Tu dépenses 1 000, tu rembourses 500 et les 500 restant se mangent des intérêts) Au final, les mecs dépensent bien plus que ce qu’ils ont. Et collectionnent les cartes de crédit. Alors ne soyez pas impressionnés par leurs voitures, leurs sacs de marque et leur collection de sneakers. Ils n’ont pas fini de les payer !
Après l’idée, c’est de gérer ce compte correctement parce que l’historique de ton crédit t’est demandé pour n’importe quelle démarche. Tu veux ouvrir un compte internet, justif crédit. Tu veux acheter une voiture: justif crédit. Tu veux acheter une maison : justif crédit. Même si tu veux louer un appart, on peut te le demander. Alors si ton historique n’est pas régulier, tu peux dire bye bye à pas mal de truc. Pour info (et pour les gangsters en herbe), le système a des failles ! Un Français vivant à NYC, prêt à rentrer en France a usé ses cartes de crédit à la mort, éclatant Macy’s & Co. Puis il est rentré, sans jamais rembourser sa carte, ni mettre les pieds aux US. C’est l’arroseur arrosé quoi ! Les Cainris se sont pris une carotte ! Bon si tu fais ça, assure-toi de ne rien avoir oublié sur le territoire parce que Bank of America risque de te tomber dessus à JFK sinon… Mais m’écoutez pas hein, je veux pas vous inciter à causer un nouveau crack boursier, y’en a déjà pas mal dans le ‘financial district’ qui y bossent.
Bon, voilà, maintenant vous êtes rodés. Vous savez pourquoi les cainri ont toujours plein de trucs. C’est parce qu’ils les ont pas ENCORE PAYES. Et quand vous venez ici, et que vous utilisez votre CB, c’est ce qu’ils appellent une carte de ‘crédit’. Et si vous vous installez ici quelque temps, pas nécessaire de prendre une vraie carte de crédit cainri. Moi perso je vis très bien sans, et je préfère dépenser le peu d’argent que j’ai, plutôt que de flamber avec des billets imaginaires comme la plupart de mes voisins mangeurs de hamburgers.
Comme les Américains sont tous dans la merde à cause de leurs cartes de crédit qu’ils ne peuvent pas rembourser, ils font de l’humour dessus. Genre lui là en dessous. Voilà. A+ les ladies & gents
